Privacy Policy
Last Updated: October 12, 2026
1. Introduction
This Privacy Policy explains how Harsh ("we," "our," or "us") handles information when you use the Harsh mobile application (the "App"). Harsh was previously published as "Rudmo."
Short version: there are no accounts. Your preferences live on your device. We use a few service providers to run subscriptions, understand usage in aggregate, and fix crashes. We do not sell your data.
By using the App, you acknowledge that you have read and understood this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the App.
2. Information We Collect
2.1. Information Stored Only on Your Device
The App does not require you to create an account or sign in. The following is stored locally on your device and is not uploaded to us:
- Preferences: your chosen rudeness level, topics, excuses selected during onboarding, notification times, share card colour, and whether you have confirmed you are 18+ for the "No Mercy" level.
- Progress: your streak, the roasts you have viewed today (used for the free daily limit), and recently seen roasts (so you do not see repeats).
- Saved roasts: roasts you choose to save.
This data stays on your device until you delete the App or clear its data.
2.2. Purchase Information
Subscriptions and purchases are processed by Apple (App Store) or Google (Google Play). We use RevenueCat to check whether you have an active subscription. RevenueCat assigns an anonymous app user ID and receives purchase receipts, product identifiers, subscription status, and basic device information. We never receive your payment card details.
2.3. Usage Analytics
We use Firebase Analytics (Google) to understand, in aggregate, how the App is used, for example which screens are opened, when a roast is viewed, saved or shared, when the paywall is shown, and when a purchase starts or completes. This includes device information (model, operating system, language, app version), approximate region, and an app instance identifier. Analytics events do not include your name or email address, because we do not collect them.
2.4. Crash and Error Reports
We use Sentry to collect crash reports and error logs, including device information, app version, and the technical events that led to an error. We use this only to find and fix bugs.
2.5. Device Features (with Your Permission)
- Notifications: the App schedules local notifications on your device at the times you choose. Notification content is generated on your device; we do not run a push notification server for these reminders.
- Photo Library (write-only): when you tap "Save image," the App asks for permission to add the generated share card to your photo library. The App only writes images; it does not read, browse, or upload your existing photos.
- Sharing: when you share a roast, the image is passed to your device's share sheet. We do not see where you share it.
- Home-screen widget: if you add the Harsh widget, the App prepares a short list of upcoming roasts on your device and the widget reads it from local storage. Nothing about the widget is sent to us.
- Haptics: used for tactile feedback. No data is collected.
3. How We Use Information
- To provide the App's features and remember your preferences on your device.
- To unlock Pro features and restore purchases.
- To understand overall usage and improve the App.
- To diagnose crashes and errors.
- To respond to support requests you send us.
- To comply with legal obligations.
4. Service Providers
We share information only with providers that help us run the App:
- RevenueCat: subscription management. Privacy policy: revenuecat.com/privacy
- Firebase Analytics (Google): usage analytics. Privacy information: firebase.google.com/support/privacy
- Sentry: crash and error reporting. Privacy policy: sentry.io/privacy
- Apple and Google: payment processing and app distribution under their own privacy policies.
We may also disclose information if required by law, to protect our rights or the safety of users, or as part of a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets.
5. Data Retention
- On-device data: kept until you delete the App or clear its data.
- Analytics data: retained according to Firebase settings, up to 14 months for event-level data.
- Crash reports: retained for up to 90 days.
- Purchase records: retained by RevenueCat and the app stores as required for financial, tax, and legal purposes.
6. Former Rudmo Accounts
Earlier versions of the App, published as Rudmo, offered optional accounts. Accounts created in that previous version are no longer used by the App, and the current App does not sign you in or sync data to them. Your Pro subscription continues to work without an account.
To request deletion of data associated with a legacy Rudmo account, email [email protected] from the address you used for that account. We will delete it and confirm when done.
7. Mature Content
The App contains crude humour. If you explicitly enable the "No Mercy" level, it shows strong profanity. Enabling it requires you to confirm that you are 18 or older, and the App is rated accordingly in the app stores. See the Terms of Service for more.
8. Your Rights and Choices
- Notifications: turn them off in the App or in your device settings.
- Photo access: change it at any time in your device settings.
- Analytics and crash reporting: you may contact us to ask about or object to this processing.
- On-device data: delete it by uninstalling the App or clearing its data.
- Access and deletion: depending on where you live (for example under the GDPR or CCPA), you may have the right to access, correct, delete, or port your personal data, to restrict or object to processing, and to complain to your local data protection authority. Because we do not hold accounts, most of your data exists only on your device. For anything held by us or our providers, email [email protected].
9. Security and International Transfers
We use reputable providers that encrypt data in transit. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure. Our providers may process data in countries other than yours, including the United States, under appropriate safeguards.
10. Children
The App is not directed at children and is intended for users 18 and older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with information, contact us and we will delete it.
11. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the new version in the App and update the "Last Updated" date above.
